Sister Patricia Treasa, O.Carm.

Sister M. Patricia Treasa, O.Carm. who, after a long illness, passed peacefully to eternal life on the night of Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Carmel Richmond. Sr. Treasa was in the 62nd year of her religious life.

Sheila Anne O’Callaghan was born in the Bronx to Christopher and Elizabeth (nee Finlay) O’Callaghan on January 25, 1943. Both of her parents came to the United States from Ireland. She entered the Congregation on September 7, 1960 at the age of 17. She professed first vows on April 17, 1963 and professed perpetual vows on July 1, 1967. Sr. Patricia Treasa’s missions included St. Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull, CT (1963-1970), Mary Manning Walsh Home, NYC (1970-1984), Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, NY (1984-1987), Ozanam Hall, Bayside, NY (1987-1997), Sacred Heart Manor, Philadelphia, PA (1997-2009) and finally, Carmel Richmond, Staten Island, NY where due to her need for skilled nursing care, she had been a resident since 2009.

Prior to being admitted to Carmel Richmond, Sr. Treasa served the residents in ministries that included Occupational Therapy, Recreation, Activities, and Pastoral Care. She loved to sing – especially Irish songs! As her illness progressed, she struggled to maintain her independence as long as possible giving of herself generously and conscientiously. Though her illness spanned many years, Sr. Treasa remained prayerful and bore her sufferings with patience and resignation.

The Lord has lifted a very heavy cross from Sr. M. Patricia Treasa’s shoulders during this Holy Week. May she now know the joy of His Presence for all eternity and may she be quick to intercede for the many needs of our beloved Congregation!
