Sister M. Patricia Michael O.Carm.  went home to the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA, in the 64th year of her religious life. Sr. Barbara Maloy and Sr. Brigid De Lourdes were at her bedside praying the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel when Sr. Michael died. Although Sr. Michael carried the cross of illness for many years, she was blessed to be lovingly cared for by our Sisters and staff.

Margaret Rose Sweeney was born on February 12,1943 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the second of two daughters born to Thomas and Rose (nee Cavanaugh) Sweeney, natives of Pennsylvania. She is survived by her sister, Marianne.  Having entered the Community on September 7, 1960, Sr. Michael received the Carmelite Habit on April 3, 1961. She made her First Profession of Vows on April 17, 1963 and professed Perpetual Vows on July 1,1967. Sr. Patricia Michael was assigned to many houses of the Congregation including in New York, Michigan, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Massachusetts. Trained as a Registered Nurse, she held several nursing positions, including Director of Nursing. She served the longest at Sacred Heart Manor, Philadelphia, where from 1980 - 2002 she had the responsibility of being the Superior/Administrator. Sr. Michael moved to the Assisted Living Convent at St. Patrick’s Manor in 2015, and in 2017, she was admitted to the nursing home.

In 1999, Sr. M. Patricia Michael was awarded the Distinguished Catholic School Graduate Award by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, an honor that was well deserved. Now that her earthly life has ended, she will receive something even greater than an award…..the “reward” of hearing Our Lord say: “Well done, good and faithful servant….”
