CMSWR Formators Workshop 2025

Back to Events

On April 28-May 2, 2025, the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR) held its Annual Formators Workshop at the Retreat and Conference Center of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, New York. The workshop was attended by Directors from different levels of religious formation (Vocation, Postulancy, Novice and Juniorate). The Sisters are members of different religious communities from all parts of the country.  The CMSWR has 117 religious communities as members. The invited speakers and topics this year were Father Dominic Langevine, O.P: "The Sacramental Life as the Foundation of the Spiritual Life / The Sacrament of Penance and Growth in the Spiritual Life", Dr. Lawrence Feingold: "Jesus' Espousal Eucharistic Love/ Mary, the Model of the Eucharistic Life", and Sister Rosemary Esseff, O.P: "On the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours-Some spiritual reflections to prepare for the New Translation"/ "On the Choral Recitation of the Divine Office-some practical skills to foster depth and unity"

There were small group break out sessions to allow for discussions on the topics presented and there were three panelists to offer their own reflections on the topics presented. The Q&A sessions were most helpful allowing for an exchange of ideas, clarifying misinformation and sharing best practices.

There were daily Mass, Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, chanting of the Liturgy of the Hours, Confessions and time for personal, quiet prayers.  As in all CMSWR gatherings, the Sisters formed new friendships, had some shared fun and relaxation and exchanged resources helpful in formation. On the last night of the workshop, a group of high school young women came to participate in a Holy Hour with a Sister offering a reflection. It was then followed by a meet and greet session and a fun bonfire on the grounds of the retreat center!
