Sr. Mary Gabriel Reis, O.Carm., passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Home, Bronx, New York,  on the night of Saturday, August 11th. Sr. Gabriel had been failing during the past several months, and when she took a sudden turn for the worse, Sr. Kevin Patricia went to her bedside and was praying the rosary when the Lord called Sr. Gabriel home.  She was in the 76th year of her religious life. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sr. Gabriel entered the Congregation on October 2, 1936 at St. Patrick's Home.  She professed Perpetual Vows in 1942, graduated from the Catholic University of America with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and after an assignment at a new foundation in Washington, D.C, spent most of her religious life at St. Teresa's Motherhouse, Germantown, New York, close to Mother Angeline.  Sr. Gabriel  served the Community as Treasurer General from 1954 until 1996, and as Vocation Director from 1960 to 1978.   Sr. Gabriel also helped to care for Mother Angeline during Mother’s final years of life. Untiring in the promotion of Mother Angeline’s Cause, Sr. Gabriel was for many years Coordinator of the Teresian Society (now The Mother Angeline Society) and the Cause and Charism Commission.  She was a talented writer and poet, a woman of great vigor and enthusiasm who was always joy-filled and generous.  Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa surely was waiting last night at the Gates of Heaven to welcome the soul of her faithful and beloved daughter home!
