R.I.P Sr. M. Elizabeth Ann, O.Carm.

Sister Helena - Sunday, May 03, 2020

Sister M. Elizabeth Ann O.Carm. passed to eternal life at 6:20 p.m. on May 2, 2020 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, NY. At the time of her passing Sr. Elizabeth Ann was in the 47 th year of her religious life.

Shirley Louise Soderquist was born on May 27, 1952 in Bridgeport, CT to Walter and Margaret (nee Doxsey) Soderquist, both natives of Connecticut. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Doughty.

After completing a 19 month course at The Butler Business School in Bridgeport, CT, Sr. Elizabeth entered our Congregation on September 8, 1973, professed first vows on March 25, 1976 and professed perpetual vows on April 19, 1982. She served at Marian Manor, So. Boston, MA (1976-1983); St. Ann Home, Dover, NH (1983-1985); St. Patrick’s Residence, Joliet and Naperville, IL (1985-1994); St. Raphael’s Home, Columbus, OH (1994-1996); St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA ( 1996- 2002); St. Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull, CT (2002-2006) and St. Teresa’s Motherhouse (2006-2020).

While missioned at Avila, Sr. Elizabeth did various forms of clerical work, including the management of two databases of records. She also assisted in the Mother Angeline Society and relieved on the switchboard. Sr. Elizabeth will be remembered as a gentle, charitable, and prayerful religious, always kind in her speech and actions and willing to perform whatever duties she was assigned.

With the passage of time we often recognize the many ways in which God uses both strength and weakness to fulfill His plans and purposes. So it was that He used Sr. Elizabeth Ann for a much needed purpose, just as He continues to use each of us. We give thanks that the Lord came with His Blessed Mother to bring her to the Father’s House on the First Saturday of May, and that Sr. Richard and I were allowed to say goodbye to her that morning. We trust that our very dear Sr. Mary Elizabeth Ann rests now in peace and perfect happiness.
