R.I.P Sister M. Helen Rosarie, O.Carm.

Sister Helena - Friday, April 30, 2021

Sister M. Helen Rosarie O.Carm. passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Manor in the 73 rd year of her religious life.

Rose Marie Helen Arakelian was born on October 19, 1932 to Krekor and Rose (nee Haytaian) Arakelian in North Attleboro, MA.Both parents were born in Armenia and later immigrated to the United States.  Having entered the Congregation on August 14, 1948, Sr. Helen Rosarie professed first vows on April 12, 1950 and final vows on December 8, 1954.  She graduated from St. Bernard’s School of Nursing, Chicago, IL as an R.N., later earning a BS in Healthcare Administration and an MS in Health Services Administration, and was a licensed nursing home administrator in Massachusetts and New York.

Sr. Helen lovingly and joyfully served the elderly in several mission houses, although her lengthiest assignments were at Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River, MA (1969-1979); St. Ann’s Home, Dover, NH (1980-1986); Marian Manor, South Boston, MA (1986-1992), Mary Manning Walsh Home, NYC (1992-1999) and St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA. (2001-2021).  Found trustworthy in small matters, Sr. Helen was given greater responsibilities including the roles of Prioress, Administrator, and Assistant Administrator.

Her father’s occupation being that of a farmer, Sr. Helen liked to refer to herself as “the farmer’s daughter.”She loved her family and her Carmelite Community, enjoyed setting up for community events, loved to listen to music and was a good dancer.  She also loved walking on the beach for hours and picking up shells. Her catch phrase was “that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”  Although she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and Sisters in Carmel, we trust that Sr. M. Helen Rosarie will remember all those whose lives she touched as she enters into the fullness of eternal life!
