R.I.P Sister M. Carolyn Therese Keane, O.Carm.

Sister Helena - Wednesday, March 06, 2019

Sister Carolyn Therese Keane, O.Carm. passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Manor, MA on March 6, 2019 in the 73 rd year of her religious life.

Carolyn Therese Keane was born on February 27, 1927 in Manchester, NH to Timothy and Catherine (nee Sears) Keane.  Having lived 33 years as a Sister of Mercy, after a canonical transfer process , the then Sr. M. Cornelius Timothy was received into Carmel on January 5, 1980.  She professed final vows as a Carmelite Sister on January 4, 1981, and later returned to her baptismal name.

Sr. Carolyn’s missions included Mary Manning Walsh Home, Carmel Manor, and Ferncliff Nursing Home for brief periods of time.  At St. Teresa’s Motherhouse, Germantown, NY, she was appointed Assistant Novice Director and Temporary Vow Director (1985-1989) and went on to serve at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, NH (1990-1997), St. Raphael’s Home, OH (1997-2005), and Marian Manor, MA (1981-1985 and 2005-2016).  In 2016,  Sr. Carolyn was transferred to St. Patrick’s Manor, MA due to failing health  and was eventually admitted as a resident.

Always very generous in the apostolate, Sr. Carolyn ministered as unit coordinator and resident advocate, in medical records and computer data entry, assisting in Chapel and distributed Holy Communion.  In addition, God blessed Sr. Carolyn with a beautiful voice and she would often raise it in song for the Sisters and the residents.

Sr. Carolyn Therese went Home to the Lord on Ash Wednesday, the day that begins our Lenten journey toward Easter.  Her journey of 92 years has ended and she now celebrates her very own Easter – and rejoices to see the Risen Lord face-to-face!
