The Holy Rosary is the most ancient of Catholic devotions. It has received approval and commendations from Popes and Saints throughout the centuries as an efficacious means towards union with God. This "compendium of the Gospels" offers us food for contemplation and opens up a way of following Jesus through Mary. In his apostolic letter On the Most Holy Rosary of the Virgin Mary, Pope John Paul II shows us how we can deepen our understanding of this great devotion. As true daughters of the Church, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm look to this treasure of the Universal Church with particular devotion. As true daughters of Carmel, we value the Rosary as much as we value the Brown Scapular given to us by our Mother. In the Fatima apparition, Mary appeared dressed in the Carmelite habit holding the brown scapular and the Rosary. For Carmelites, the Scapular and the Rosary are inseparable. Our Mother Foundress taught us the same.

Every year, a public Rosary procession is held on the grounds of the Motherhouse in Germantown, New York, to honor Mary. It is attended by our Sisters, our Residents from the different nursing Homes where the Sisters serve, Staff members of the homes, friends, and anyone else who seeks to pay tribute to Mary. As part of the procession, Our Lady is crowned, after which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated. Picnic areas are also set up for those who come early. It is an opportune time to visit the Motherhouse, with its beautiful view of the Hudson River and the Catskill mountains.

It is a time of devotion, prayer and enjoyment as we celebrate together life in Carmel.
