The 29th Anniversary Mass Celebration

Sister Helena - Thursday, January 24, 2013
Saint Teresa’s Motherhouse in Germantown, New York buzzed with activities as the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm celebrated the 29th anniversary of the birth to Eternal Life of Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory on January 21, 2013.  She would also have celebrated her 120th birthday on the same day!  Mother Angeline Teresa was declared Venerable by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on June 28, 2012. The Eucharistic Celebration was held in the Congregation’s St. Teresa’s Chapel and was attended by invited members of the Clergy, members of the McCrory family and other friends.  It was wonderful to have a number of our Sisters making their Spiritual Renewal during this month join the group already gathered for the special celebration.  With the weather being extra kind this year, the day was well attended, best enjoyed, and blessed indeed. Very Reverend Mario Esposito, O.Carm gave a homily touching on this year’s theme: A Woman of Heroic Virtue.  In his homily, Father Mario built on the chosen Gospel reading which talked about the call of Jesus to His disciples to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  Mother Angeline Teresa took this call to heart and lived out the virtues which made possible the Christ-like care of the aged and infirm a reality for many more women who follow in her footsteps.  The Saints, with their virtues, enrich the Universal Church and they give witness to the beauty of the baptismal commitment fully lived.  Mother Angeline Teresa, by the Church’s declaration of heroic virtues, acknowledges her life and exercise of prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, faith, hope and love, to a degree worthy of imitation.  This day was truly a day of remembrance and thanksgiving. The attendees enjoyed each other’s company and a delicious meal prepared for the occasion.
