R.I.P Sister Teresa Kennedy, O.Carm.

Sister Helena - Tuesday, October 31, 2017

Sister Teresa Kennedy, O.Carm. passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 29, 2017 at the Kahl Home in the 61 st year of her religious life.

Teresa Ann Kennedy was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 18, 1938 to Thomas and Mary (Bergin) Kennedy. Her father was from Scotland and her mother was from Ireland. She entered the Congregation on September 7, 1956, professed First Vows on October 2, 1958, and made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on December 8, 1962.

Sr. Teresa had many missions during her time in Community, among them Carmel Hall, Detroit, MI (1958-1962 & 1971-1974); Kahl Home, Davenport, IA (1963-1965, 1986-1991, & 2013-2017); St. Patrick’s Residence, Joliet, IL (1965-1970) & Naperville, IL (1991-1998). She was also at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas, KY (1998-2013) as either the Administrator, Prioress/Administrator, or Assistant Prioress/Administrator.

Sr. Teresa was fond of reading British mystery novels and watching old movies. Her favorite color was yellow, she preferred plain food (no salt and pepper), and cooked the very best steak and lamb chops. She loved to laugh, and she was often heard spontaneously raising her voice in song – even when nobody else was singing! May her special patron, St. Therese of Lisieux, and all the Carmelite Saints, open the gates of heaven to Sr. Teresa, as she spontaneously raises her voice with theirs in a song of joy that will never end!
