Sister Maureen Rochford, O.Carm. passed to eternal life on the night of April 15, 2020 in the 71 st year of her religious life. Sr. Maureen was recuperating at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, MA following surgery for a fractured elbow when she suffered cardiac arrest and was rushed to Metro West Hospital where she later died.
Maureen Margaret Rochford was born on January 11, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to William and Mary (nee Nolan) Rochford, both of whom were born in Ireland. She entered the Congregation on September 7, 1949, and received the habit on March 19, 1950 taking the name Sr. M. Joseph Bernard and later returning to her baptismal name. She was professed on March 27, 1951 and made her final profession of vows on December 8, 1955. Throughout her religious life, Sr. Maureen was missioned in either New York or Massachusetts: Mary Manning Walsh Home, NYC (1951-1952); Mt. Carmel Home, NYC (1952-1954); Josephine Baird Home, NYC (1954-1962); Marian Manor, So. Boston, MA (1962-1980); Madonna Residence, Brooklyn, NY (1980-1995); and St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA (1995-2020).
Trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Sr. Maureen was a quiet, hard-working and very efficient Sister who ministered to residents of the West Building at Marian Manor and more recently in the area of employee health at St. Patrick’s Manor. Although we are saddened by her passing, we rejoice that the Lord whom Sr. Maureen served so faithfully called her Home during the Octave of Easter when- even in the midst of darkness and great suffering throughout the world - the faithful still sing Alleluia…and the Gates of Heaven are wide open!
