Celebrating The Year of Consecrated Life 2015

Sister Helena - Wednesday, September 16, 2015

On September 12, 2015, the Carmelite Sisters at St. Teresa's Motherhouse in Germantown, New York opened their doors to the public to locally celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life proclaimed by Pope Francis.  Those who attended the event were introduced to the life and legacy of Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa who founded the Congregation in 1929.  Fr. Ashley Harrington, O.Carm. delivered the historical background to the life of the Foundress and was then followed by the attendees spending an extended amount of time at the new Heritage Center which houses memorabilia and information on Venerable Mary Angeline.  There was time to visit "shrines" found on the convent property using a map developed for the purpose.  A "treasure hunt" was organized for the children attending to give the day a celebratory flavor.  Those who came to enjoy the famed beauty of Avila-on-Hudson also found the quiet time to do just that. The event concluded with an Evening Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
