On October 5, 2019, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm welcomed in their midst a new Postulant! "Most Holy Virgin, Mother of God and Queen of Carmel, I consecrate myself to your service. I choose you for my Mother and Queen. Accept me as your child and receive this offering of my body and soul, of my mind and heart, of all that I am and possess. Through you, I offer my entire life to the service of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Take me under your protection and give me your blessing, O most dear Mother. Protect me agaist temptation, deliver me from danger, assist me in my trials, and help mereach that blessed day when I will become a "Bride of Christ" and receive the holy Habit of Carmel. Then, fortified by your blessed gift to Carmel, the Brown Scapular, may I bring glory to God, to you, and to our Community. Amen.

We ask God's blessings and the intercession of Mary, our Mother, to be with Sr. Katie as she takes these first steps of her journey to Mount Carmel!

R.I.P Sr. Francis Clare of All Saints, O.Carm.

Sister M. Francis Clare of All Saints, O.Carm.  passed away peacefully at Saint Patrick's Manor on the morning of October 2, 2019 in the 55th year of her religious life.

Rosalina Magano was born in Fall River, MA on September 7, 1940, the younger of two children born to Manual and Mary (nee Sousa Rapoza) Magano of Fall River. We join her older sister, Sr. Mary Ellen Bernadette, in mourning and extend to her our heartfelt condolences.

Sr. Francis Clare entered the Community on September 12, 1964, professed first vows on April 5, 1967 and made her final profession on December 8, 1972. She had brief assignments at St. Joseph’s Manor, Madonna Residence, Garvey Manor, Catholic Memorial Home, Our Lady’s Haven, St. Teresa’s Manor, St. Ann Home, and St. Rita’s Home. Her lengthier missions were at Marian Manor (2005 - 2012) and St. Patrick’s Manor (2012 - 2019). A gifted musician, Sr. Francis Clare shared her gift for music both in ministry and in community.  She was an active member of the Community Choir for many years, and beautifully played the violin for many a liturgical celebration. Her ministry to the residents was mainly in the area of Activities, including music therapy and planning music and Mass booklets for liturgies. Sr. Francis also visited the residents to pray with them and for them.

Having courageously carried the cross of illness for many years, Sr. M. Francis Clare of All Saints now and forever experiences the peace she so longed for.  And somewhere beyond this world, she giftedly moves a bow across a violin pressed against her shoulder, in perfect harmony with all the angels and saints, as her beautiful music resounds in joyful praise before the Lord!

Dan Schutte is an American composer of Catholic liturgical music and a contemporary Christian songwriter best known for composing the hymn "Here I Am, Lord" (1981, also known as "I, the Lord of Sea and Sky") and over 150 popular hymns and Mass settings. (Wikipedia)

On September 26, 2019, the Carmelite Sisters hosted a Dan Schutte concert to commemorate the 90th anniversary of their foundation.  The concert was a celebration of God's love, mercy and power expressed in the many songs familiar to the many people who have followed Dan Schutte's music through the years.  Enjoy the photos!

Proclaim!

Garvey Manor Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg is renowned for its excellence in caring for the sick and elderly.

For Sister Joachim Anne Ferenchak, O Carm., one guiding principle helps to maintain that standard.

“The primary identity of Garvey Manor should be that we’re a Catholic facility because here in this house, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, we are bringing Christ,” explained Sister Joachim. “We’re bringing Christ to them morning, Noon, and night – not treating each person as a patient, but treating them as Christ – the Christ that we meet in our neighbors, the Christ that we meet in those that we associate with. If we don’t bring Christ to them and recognize Christ in them, then we fail in our Catholic identity.”

Cardinal Dolan Visits Saint Teresa's Motherhouse

Thursday, September 05, 2019 | Comments (0) | Permalink

On Tuesday, August 27, we were blessed to have a visit from Timothy Cardinal Dolan and his secretary Fr. Stephen Reis.  After speaking with Mother Mark and Council in the White House (where the Prioress General and her Council stay) and making a visit to Mother Angeline's chapel, the Cardinal offered Mass at 11:45 a.m. in the Main Chapel.  Sisters and available staff attended, and lunch followed in the Refectory.   As always, the Cardinal was warm and personable, and all enjoyed his exuberant presence and the privilege of attending his Mass. On his way out after lunch, Cardinal Dolan and Fr. Stephen said prayers at Mother Angeline's grave and were offered a very quick tour of the Heritage Center. He promised the Novices he would offer their Profession Mass, so hopefully he will make a return visit.
